Cyber Classroom CD-ROM issues
Issue: Defective CD's
Products Possibly Affected:
- Java Multimedia Cyber Classroom, 4th Edition, Deitel & Associates, ISBN: 013064935X.
- Internet & World Wide Web Multimedia Cyber Classroom, 2nd Edition, Deitel & Associates, ISBN: 013089598.
Symptoms:
- After successfully installing the Cyber Classroom from CD#1, CD#2 is inserted into the same CD-ROM drive and the drive attempts to read the CD unsuccessfully.
- Drive noises can be heard, but the system seems frozen.
- The Cyber Classroom does not launch.
Resolution 1—Clean CD#2/ [NOTE: This assumes a successful installation from CD#1.
- Clean CD#2 thoroughly with a dry cloth, wipe from the inside out.
- Re-insert CD#2 into the CD-ROM drive.
- Launch the Cyber Classroom by selecting it from Start>Programs>PTG Interactive.
- If this does not work proceed to Resolution 2.
Resolution 2—You can try copying all of the
data files from CD#2 to your hard drive and running it from there: [NOTE: This assumes a successful installation from CD#1, and requires a minimum of 600MB free disk space.]
- Insert CD#2 into your CD-ROM drive.
- Open Windows Explorer and click on your CD-ROM drive.
- Drag and drop the CD-ROM root level folder (it will have a numeric name like the following: 6493a9) into the root level of your local hard drive. (example: C:\) NOTE: This will take several minutes depending on your processor speed. As a benchmark: A 500 mHz Pentium III processor should complete this task in under 20 minutes.
- Remove CD#2 from your CD-ROM drive.
- Open Windows Explorer and navigate to local drive\Program Files\PTG Interactive\htdocs\title code\start.htm [Example: c:\Program Files\PTG Interactive\htdocs\6493a9\start.htm.]
- Open start.htm with Notepad or any text editor.
- The following is a sample of the code that should appear:
- In the two lines colored red above, change "D:" to be
the letter of local hard drive. (For Example: "c") .
- Launch the Cyber Classroom normally by selecting it from Start>Programs>PTG Interactive.
- If the product does not launch or an error message was displayed while copying the CD, please proceed to Resolution 3.
Resolution 3—Contact Disk Exchange for a replacement CD.
